About Us
The Black Girls for Liberation Collective (BGFLCollective) was founded in 2021 in response to a community need that was left unmet. Often Black girls are dismissed and thus become invisible, OR they are hypervisible to those who only see them through a deficit lens. We recognize the brilliance of Black girls and the need for them to have sacred spaces to convene, develop, understand self, build relationships with one another, be affirmed, and dream out loud. The Black Girls for Liberation Collective was developed with Black adolescent girls, particularly those navigating the transitions from elementary to middle school in mind.
Black girls deserve joy. Black girls deserve to be intentionally nurtured and affirmed. Here at BGFL we believe that these are their rights and we do the work of curating such spaces alongside Black girls and help others do it too!
